Bereavement Services Manager's Report

Decision Maker: Chesterfield and District Joint Crematorium Committee

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Decisions:

The Bereavement Services Manager submitted a report on matters relating to the operation of the Crematorium and recommending that Chesterfield SANDS be approved to provide a memorial within the baby garden.

Information on the number of funerals for the year, broken down into local authority area for 2014 against 2013, was provided, together with comparisons of income for the same periods.

The Bereavement Services Manager reported that the crematorium service times were extended during a particularly busy period in January 2015, with an estimated 49 funerals taking place during those extended hours.

It was recommended that all cremation fees for children under 12 years of age be waived. A fee had previously been charged by the Medical Referee for their written authority. The Medical Referee had agreed to waive this fee for funerals for which the Crematorium make no charge. This was to be applied retrospectively from 1 January 2015.

It was reported that Macmillan Nurses had been nominated to receive donations from the ICCM recycling fund. The cheque had now been received and would be forwarded to the charity. Previously Chesterfield SANDS had been nominated to receive donations and they wished to use the funds to provide a memorial feature within the baby garden.

It was also reported that the annual Service of Remembrance and Open Day were to take place on Sunday 28 June 2015.
