Minutes:

The Licensing Manager submitted a report for Members to consider the results of the Hackney Carriage Unmet Demand Survey carried out in 2019 and for Members to consider future policy on hackney carriage numbers.

In 2010, a survey had been carried out which had resulted in the Committee limiting the number of hackney carriages licensed by the Council.  Further unmet demand surveys had been undertaken in 2013 and in 2016 when the Committee had decided to maintain the limit at 110 hackney carriages.

The author of the survey report, Mr Iain Macdonald from LVSA consultancy, attended the meeting to give a presentation to Members on his findings.

The 2019 survey concluded that there was no evidence of significant unmet demand for the services of hackney carriages in the Chesterfield Borough Council area.

*RESOLVED –

1.   That the limit on the number of hackney carriage vehicle licences be retained at 110.

2.   That a further unmet demand survey be undertaken in 2022, to be funded by hackney carriage licence holders.
