That the Minutes of the meeting of the Appeals and Regulatory Committee held on 14 December, 2022 be approved as a correct record and signed by the Chair.

The Licensing Manager submitted a report for members to consider a proposed increase in the tariff charged by the Chesterfield Borough Council Hackney Carriage Table of Fares, as requested by representatives of the Hackney Carriage trade.

 

The requested increase would be 10% from 1 April 2023.

 

The proposed increase sought to ensure that licensed Hackney Carriage owners, proprietors and drivers were able to support their businesses and maintain vehicles to a roadworthy and acceptable standard and at the same time result in travel by Hackney Carriage to be an affordable option.

 

The proposed New Table of Fares was appended to the report.

 

Hackney Carriage Representatives had been invited to the meeting and Paul Gregory attended.

 

*RESOLVED –

 

That the proposed increase in the Hackney tariff be approved and subject to a 14 day consultation period be implemented from 1 April 2023.

The Licensing Officer presented a report to members to consider an amendment to the Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy in relation to charging for safeguarding courses required of applicants for taxi licenses.

 

Members heard how the council would like to introduce a financial charge of £25 per driver for the safeguarding course, operating face to face.

 

*RESOLVED –

 

That the council introduced a financial charge of £25 for the safeguarding course required of every applicant for a taxi drivers’ licence.
