Public Questions to the Council

To receive questions from members of the public in accordance with Standing Order No. 12.

Question submitted by Adrian Rimington;

Councillor Martin Stone in conversation told me that 95% of councils are following the same line as Chesterfield and charging for green bins. There will be weeping and wails from the councils of England when the National Pensioners Convention, the largest campaigning group for elderly people, prevails in the forthcoming debate to reverse green bin charges.

I ask Councillor Martin Stone ahead of this debate to say whether he is inclined to allow pensioners to be exempt from the charge (or at least a much reduced charge) in 2025, as the gardening season now comes to a close?

Question submitted by Max Kerley;

In 2019 the council built 4 houses on Rufford Close Chesterfield. The houses were completed in April 2019 but very shortly afterwards dangerous gases were detected in these houses which necessitated their demolition. After the demolition of these houses Councillor Gilby refused to release any information arguing that the Council was pursuing legal redress and that releasing information could jeopardise this action.

In December 2023 Councillor Gilby informed a full Council meeting that following legal proceedings she was pleased to announce that the council had been able to settle the matter by arbitration. Shortly afterwards, Councillor Gilby was forced to admit that she had been mistaken and that legal proceedings had not been settled by arbitration.

The Councils view was that the legal process had not addressed elements of the dispute to the Councils satisfaction, and as a result the Council was contemplating further legal action.

My question is therefore very simple. Has this further legal action now been completed?
