Question submitted by Councillor Fordham:
“What arrangements have been made for the winter months to provide for those citizens, who might have sought to access a Night Shelter in previous years, to ensure that people are not sleeping on the streets of Chesterfield with no alternative structured and sympathetic provision?”
Minutes:
Under Standing Order No. 19 Councillor Fordham asked the following question:
· What arrangements have been made for the winter months to provide for those citizens, who might have sought to access a Night Shelter in previous years, to ensure that people are not sleeping on the streets of Chesterfield with no alternative structured and sympathetic provision?
Councillor Ludlow provided a verbal response confirming that providing services to rough sleepers remained a priority for the Council. She referred to the need for provision to be in self-contained units, including Council properties, bed and breakfast and Housing Association accommodation, in order to minimise Covid-19 risks, and to current work to access County Council ‘Next Steps Accommodation’ and government ‘Cold Weather’ funding to support the delivery of such services through the winter.
