Mayor's Communications

Minutes:

The Mayor referred with sadness to the deaths of former Mayor and Councillor Margaret Higgins and former Mayoress Jean Whyatt. Members stood for a minute’s silence in their honour.

The Mayor referred to the following recent Mayoral engagements:

·        The International Women’s Day in the Town Hall with a panel of inspirational women talking about their careers, barriers they had encountered and how they had overcome them.

·        St Mary’s High School Festival of Music at the Winding Wheel.

·        The Chesterfield Young Enterprise Area Final for the Chesterfield area, from which three entries went through to the next stage.

·        The unveiling of the new Poppy Sculpture in the Parish Church, made up of 1,574 hand-made poppies that represent the people from Chesterfield that died in the First World War.

·        Receiving donations of poppies from Fred’s Haberdashery and of wool from the Wool Cabin in the Market Hall for the Poppy Cascade at the Town Hall. Over 6,000 poppies had already been collected.

The Mayor thanked everybody who had supported her Gala Dinner, which had been a very enjoyable evening and had raised £3,500 for the Mayor’s charities.
